Dedicated to Teaching Individuals to Swim Confidently

The Cypress-Fairbanks Swim Club (FLEET Swimming) was founded in 1975. During the next two decades, it became quite obvious that there was a strong need for us at FLEET to not only prepare swimmers for the competitive team but also to reach out to the community, promote water safety, and teach children a crucial skill - how to swim. Thus, the FLEET First Swim School was created in 1999.

FLEET First Swim School is the only provider of the SwimAmerica™ program in the Northwest Houston area. SwimAmerica™ is a national learn-to-swim program operated by the American Swimming Coaches Association. It is managed by over 500 Program Directors at over 900 sites across the USA. SwimAmerica™ is the state-of-the-art swimming program of the nation today. Its curriculum has been developed by the committee of the American Swimming Coaches Association to provide the finest learn-to-swim progression possible.

The emphasis of the SwimAmerica Cypress Program is to teach proper swim techniques while learning basic water safety in a fun, energetic atmosphere. SwimAmerica was developed by coaches of the American Swimming Coaches Association in order to provide the finest learn-to- swim program available. The SwimAmerica coaching staff has been professionally trained to offer your child the latest in teaching and learning. SwimAmerica is both goal driven and technique oriented. Children are taught in small groups (4:1) and have the ability to move up to progressively higher level stations as they achieve the goals of their current group.

The SwimAmerica™ program is operated by using ten stations, or levels. Swimmers will move to the higher skill levels as they achieve the advancement goals of their present station.  Because SwimAmerica™ is so goal-driven, we have been able to specify skills that must be mastered before progressing to the next difficulty or level of swimming. We will reward the swimmer at every phase of their progression and build their confidence as they are learning to swim.

Our school is technique-oriented.  Our desire is to emphasize proper stroke mechanics from the very beginning. Our coaches will affirm correct swimming technique from the first lesson on.  We love what we do, and are proud to bear the SwimAmerica™'s name. Our swim school produces strong swimmers who are ready for competitive swim, or who are just prepared to be in the water, wherever they may be.

 PROGRAM OVERVIEW:

Parent & Child

  • 6 months to 36 months

  • Maximum of 4 children & their Parent/Guardian with 1 Instructor

  • Swim diapers are required. No food or drink 30 minutes prior to swim lesson.

  • This class is offered to those interested in increasing comfort in the water and developing survival floating skills. A parent or guardian must be with the swimmer for the entire session. Water or survival skills will encourage new abilities in the areas of motor development, language, emotional and social skills.

  • Children ages 6-36 months are introduced to the water through songs and games. The goals for this class are to have the children comfortable and happy in the water as well as learn the basic skills necessary to move on to Preschool level classes when age appropriate.

  • Skills Taught: Blowing Bubbles, Kicking Feet, Holding Breath, Floating on Back, Rolling Over, Calling for Help, Climbing Out, Jumping off the Side, Free Swimming, Using a Noodle, Hand Eye Coordination, and Upper & Lower Body Strengthening.

Preschool Classes

  • 3 to 4 year olds

  • SwimAmerica Preschool Curriculum

  • If not potty trained, swim diapers are required. No food or drink 30 minutes prior to lesson

  • Lessons can become very skill oriented at this age.  Preschool age children can learn to propel themselves independently in the water, can learn safety skills for themselves, learn to call for help for others and they can learn basic stroke skills in freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly.  They can learn to sustain themselves independently in the water for extended periods of time.

  • When time to move to School Age program they will be evaluated to determine School Age SwimAmerica Station

School Age Classes

  • 5 - 13 years old

  • School Age SwimAmerica curriculum

  • Lessons for students 5 to 13 years old, from beginners to advanced skill levels. We don’t teach lessons.  We teach PEOPLE HOW TO SWIM

  • Swimmers advance through ten stations starting with breathing techniques to the final station having learned 6 different strokes, starts, turns and basic water safety

  • SwimAmerica lessons are designed to teach all the swim skills your child needs to be safe in and around the water for a lifetime. Our swim school focus is on safety skills and the ability to swim a minimum of 300 yards of freestyle.

Future Stars

  • Once a student completes Station 10 of the School Age SwimAmerica curriculum

  • Our Future Stars Program is designed to offer students that have mastered Station 10 with a continuation or possible stepping stone into our FLEET Swimming team

  • This is a non competitive group that meets 3 days a week for 1 hour.

  • Designed to help give your child a lifelong skill and love of the sport of swimming. Our coaches offer instruction in a fun, caring environment. Children will focus on endurance, speed, and continue with stroke mechanics.

  • Future Stars Requirements:

    • Swimmer must be able to swim 300 yards free-style

    • Swimmer must be able to swim legal 100 yard IM (Individual Medley)

  • In order to sign up directly into Future Stars the swimmer must be able to meet the above requirements.

  • On the first day of class the swimmer will be evaluated and at the discretion of the coach they may be placed in a more appropriate SwimAmerica level if necessary.

Special Needs

  • 1 on 1 Instruction

  • Teaching kids with special needs to swim is not only a good idea, it’s essential.  Swimming lessons help kids with special needs in a number of key areas, including greater muscle strength and physical endurance, increased flexibility, more self-control, and, in many instances, improved behavioral outcomes.

  • Special Private Lessons for Special People. This one-on-one 30 minute aquatic program, taught by our SwimAmerica Coaches is ideal for special needs children and or adults

  • Our aquatics program provides a wide range of classes designed to work with children of all abilities.

  • Lessons are adapted to each child or adult’s specific needs and limitations.

Adult

  • 14 years of age or older

  • Private Lessons ONLY

  • Breath Control and Buoyancy then 10 SwimAmerica Stations

  • We teach our adult students how to breathe and get air first so that they are more self-sufficient in the water. Water adjustment, breath control, buoyancy, coordination and relaxation are the key areas of instruction.  Once we have taught breath control and buoyancy then we proceed to the same Ten Stations of the School-Age progression.  We teach the same sequence of skills.  We teach stroke improvement and endurance improvements in a group.
